MEGAMalvern Ethical and Green Alliance

Apologies for the interrupton to this website in the last few days (4th to 7th June) - the hosting service we were about to move from anyway went and had a major failure. Hopefully everything is back pretty much as it was before.

Malvern Ethical and Green Alliance (MEGA) is a network of local groups with some common interest in environment and social justice issues, exchanging information and cooperating where appropriate.

Also see Why MEGA page (includes terms of reference), members info page.

Networking for Malvern

For updates on MEGA events, developments and how to join in, please see either the online Discussion Forum or the Malvern Green blog (more up-to-date at March 2008). And please use these to keep in touch and exchange information, etc. There is advice on using the forum below. If you are on Facebook, check out the Green Malvern group.

Next meeting

Nothing planned. New eco cafe The Fold, at Bransford, could be a good venue but they aren't normally open in the evening.

Green Hustings

Green Hustings for the 2007 Malvern Hills District Council elections were held 19/4/07, run by Malvern Greenpeacel. An interesting event but no stunning new commitments from any of the local political parties. Also see Malvern Gazette news item or the first press release (Word format). Or the MEGA forum for more on Green/ethical hustings.

Green Fair

Thanks to those who came along, stallholders and visitors alike, to the Green Fair (or Fayre as the Fringe organisers had it) at the May Day event on 28th April in Priory Park. A successful event overall, and most MEGA groups there thought it worth doing.

Wider use of the MEGA web pages

There's space to have web pages for member groups on this site. Some special areas set up so far:

And here's a direct link to the North Site development discussion.

Using the discussion forum

At its simplest, you can go direct to the general MEGA discussion area (board). Read the topics there and, as a trial from 5th March**, you can make a comment without even logging in. Just find the reply button and fill in the text box which appears (please give a name, plus email which won't appear online), and click on 'post'.

To start a new item (topic), 'log in'. If you already have a username and password (= registered), please enter these at the top of the page (any page) and press the login button. You might as well leave the option on how long to stay logged in as 'forever', as you can use the logout button at any time.

If you haven't got a username, you can still browse most of the site but you won't be able to make any new contributions apart from commneting on existing topics**. To get a username, either click on Register (should appear a couple of times at the top of the page) - I'll need to approve the request - or email me and ask to be registered. In either case I'll need to have some idea which group you are joining from, so I can stop spammers making a mess.

To reply to an item (a post), find the Reply button and click, fill in the blank box with whatever you want to say, and press Post underneath. All the other options are optional - they are useful for adding links to other web pages, formatting tweaks etc. Perhaps tick the box labelled "Notify me of replies". To start a new topic (not connected with an earlier post) you need to be at 'board level' (eg MEGA Discussion) - not looking at a post or on the front page - and guess what, find the 'new topic' button and click it. It's the same as replying, except you need to fill in the Subject box (title) too. More on how to 'Have your say' in the How To section on the forum (under Forum Notices).

The shared login of username greenmal, followed by vern2007, still exists for the moment for those who want to do a test drive without waiting to sign up or commitment, but we don't encourage its use and may remove without prior warning!

** The 'open commenting' experiment may be switched off if it attracts spam or such like.

What's on the forum

Check out the other board areas, grouped into 3 sections: Discussions, Events Listings and Forum Notices. The other sections at the bottom of the front/home page can be ignored. Look at the top of the page to find the 'menu bar' for the Calendar (connected to Events Listings) and Links pages. There's also a Profile option which shows in the menu bar if you are logged in - the How To section explains more, but basically this has options on things like changing your password or whether to be informed by email when there are new items.
